Ocean State College Wrestling Coach
Ken Hoff
(2000 - Present)
Coach Hoff took over as head coach for the Spartans in 2000. Since becoming head coach he has turned Ocean into one of the top wrestling programs in all of New Jersey. He guided Ocean to it's first State Sectional title in 2004 and repeated the task from 2005-2008. Along the way he has also coached the Spartans to 3 Divisional titles and 6 District 22 team titles. Coach Hoff has also coached 34 individual District champions, 12 Region champions, and 23 NJSIAA tournament placers including two-time State Champion Nick Menditto.
In addition to the team's accomplishment's, Hoff has also been named Shore Conference Coach of the Year by the Newark Star Ledger and has won Coach of the Year honors in both District 22 and Region 6.
Coach Hoff was a co-captain at Tom's River East high school where he qualified for the NJSIAA tournament as a senior in 1987.
In 1992 Coach Hoff graduated from Montclair State College where he was an All-American in 1990 as well as a 3 time Academic All-American and 2-time co-captain.
He spent 3 years as an assistant coach at Elmwood High School prior to coming to Ocean where he is a member of the Physical Education department. Hoff started as head coach of the Intermediate School team before becoming an assistant varsity coach under Mike Vescovi.
Mike Vescovi
(1993 - 2000)
Coach Mike Vescovi took over for Dave Ruch in 1993. In his first year as head coach he guided Ocean to its first ever A-North Championship. Vescovi's teams would go on to capture 2 more divisional titles, 4 consecutive District 22 team titles, and his 1998 team was ranked #1 in Monmouth County.
During his tenure as head coach, Vescovi's wrestlers claimed 18 individual District championships and 2 Region Championships.
Vescovi was a 4 year varsity letter winner in wrestling at Pt. Pleasant Beach high school, as well as a 2 year letterman in football.
A graduate of Lock Haven University in 1986, he took over as head coach at Red Bank Catholic in 1987 where he was named District 22 Coach of the Year in 1989.
Vescovi came to Ocean in 1990 where he served as assistant varisty coach and head freshmen coach until he took over for Ruch.
A member of the physical education department at Ocean, Vescovi is now a wrestling official in the Shore Conference area.
Dave Ruch
(1976 - 1993)
"It's gonna be a barn burner!"
Coach Ruch has had the longest tenure of any head coach in Ocean's history.
A graduate of East Stroudsburg, Ruch was head coach at Asbury Park high school before coming to Ocean.
Ruch is credited with putting Ocean wrestling on the map. Earning the school their first Divisional championship in 1978 and their first District team title in 1989, where he also garnered Coach of the Year honors.
Ruch also coached Ocean's first state place winners, Jim Loizos and Skip Wohlert, in 1980 and Ocean's first Region champion, Phil Michals, in 1987.
Ruch would later go on to be head coach of the varsity golf team and a wrestling official in the Shore Conference's chapter of officials.
